Wooden Wall Pocket, 19th Century

Originally mounted near a work surface or hearth, this small wooden wall pocket was made to hold letters, tools, or small household items kept close at hand. Its open form and shallow depth suggest frequent use, where contents needed to be seen and reached easily.

The wood shows deep patina and softened edges from years of handling, with subtle irregularities that speak to hand construction rather than refinement. Once purely functional, it now reads as a sculptural domestic object with quiet presence.
